Best places to visit in Greece

In the minds of travellers, Greece is synonymous with sunshine. Its little cobbled streets are imbued with the delicious aromas of the nation's exquisite cuisine. However, It is also important to remember the universal influence this small country has had over the course of its history, which is one of the things to discover, rediscover and explore on a trip to Greece.

When visiting the bustling, chaotic capital,Athens, you will undoubtedly end up sampling Greek coffee, with its very distinct character, and ouzo, an aniseed flavoured drink and the Greek aperitif par excellence. A trip to the famous Parthenon offers the opportunity to appreciate and enjoy the marvels of Greek architecture. You will be even more amazed by this place of legend and wonder when you find out exactly how it was built.

Thessaloniki, in the north of the country, is a luxurious coastal city especially suited to pleasure seekers. The main activities it offers are shopping in the luxury shops and walks by the side of the sea. Be sure to try some souvlaki (similar to a kebab, but with a delicious Greek touch).

The most famous of all the Greek islands are the Cyclades, a very popular tourist destination. Of the individual islands that make them up, Santorini is particularly romantic in character, with its different coloured beaches and its volcanic caldera making for some incredible diving and snorkeling. Mykonos, on the other hand, is much like Ibiza, with a vibrant, energetic nightlife that never stops. Greek also has other archipelagos to offer, and any visitor who decides to spend time exploring these is guaranteed to fall in love with them. The Ionian Islands, for example (especially Paxos), are rich in literary heritage, and the Sporades offer some quite gorgeous scenery.

And lastly, Greece is also home to magnificent and still-standing vestiges of an ancient past, such as the Metéora and the many other archaeological sites to be found throughout the country.

The ideal destination, no matter what your tastes!
