Day 1: Seafood and Mangrove Lagoons in Negombo

You arrive at Bandaranaike Airport, where your driver welcomes you. You are greeted by the tropical air of this magical island.

Drive to Negombo, a beautiful beach town, nicknamed “Little Rome”, close to the airport and ideal to recover from your long flight. Settle into your hotel.
Depending on the time of your arrival, you can go for a walk around the town, explore colonial churches as well as fish and vegetable markets. You can also go for a boat ride along the Muthurajawela canal, the longest in Sri Lanka.

Day 2: Giant Buddha and Ancient Cave Monastery

In the morning, drive to the cultural triangle. On the way, admire Sri Lanka’s landscapes, driving along paddy fields, palm trees and beautiful hills.
Make a stop for lunch in the town of Kurunegala, bustling with life under the watchful gaze of a giant Buddha statue seen high above in the distance.

Continue to Dambulla, where you visit the famous cave temples, a UNESCO heritage site, with incredible Buddhism mural paintings arranged in a system of five caves. Here you can imagine the monks praying in all seclusion with magnificent views of the surrounding area. Continue to Polonnaruwa where you spend the night.

Day 3: Sigiriya Rock Fortress and Polonnaruwa Ancient City

Early in the morning, to avoid long lines, visit Sigiriya, where you can climb the famous “Lion’s Rock” with its frescoes, gardens, natural caves and ruins of the royal palace, dating back to the 10th century

Then, explore Polonnaruwa and its multiples sites featuring religious and architectural remains, with Gal Vihara as its main attraction, a group of four marvelous Buddhas carved in granite stone. Rent a bike and go for a fun ride around the area which stretches more than 5km. Both locations have been placed under the protection of UNESCO World Heritage.

Day 4: Temple Ruins and Spice Garden Cooking Class

Take the road to the mountain region of the Knuckles Range. On the way, visit the temple of Nalanda Gedige, one of the most ancient Hindu temples in the country.

Then continue to a spice garden in Matale and learn about the many cosmetic and therapeutic uses of spices and herbs. Here you can take a cooking class and enjoy a delicious lunch.

Upon reaching the Knuckles Range, enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains from the premises of your luxury eco-lodge.

Day 5: Hiking in the Knuckles Range and Kandy City Tour

In the morning, you can go for a half-day trek in the Knuckles Mountains. The way here winds through the giant and dwarf tree forests, with spectacular views of beautifully ridged mountain tops resembling the shape of the knuckles, thus giving this natural zone its peculiar name.

​Continue to Kandy and explore this royal capital, the last abode of the Sri Lankan kings. The city center features the Upper Lake Drive, Market Square and the Gem Museum.

Afterwards, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, in the royal palace complex. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Continue to Kitulgala where you spend the night.

Day 6: White Water Rafting on the Kelani River

In the morning, go for a fun white water rafting adventure on the Kelani River. The level is not difficult so you will have ample time to enjoy the undulating lanscapes on the way of your 7km rafting excursion.

From Kitulgala, get on the road to the region of Maskeliya, known for its beautiful landscapes made of never-ending tea plantations.

Arrive at your hotel at the foot of Adam’s Peak, a must-see of Sri Lanka, with amazing views of the rising sun from the top of this sacred mountain.
Enjoy the afternoon at leisure at the hotel and take a late-afternoon nap to prepare for the nighttime climb of the mountain.

Day 7: Sunrise From Adam's Peak and Train Journey to Nuwara Eliya

Around 2am, begin the ascent of some 5,000 steps toward the peak of the mountain, also known as “Sri Pada” or Sacred Foot. You will find a small temple at the top, but also, depending on the season, crowds of pilgrims who climb the mountain as part of their annual religious pilgrimage. The climb can be difficult for some, this is why you need to be in good physical shape with ample rest the evening prior. Once on top, you will feel that it was all worth it!

Return to the hotel for a quick shower and breakfast before you embark on a scenic train journey for Hatton, a colourful mountain town mostly populated by tea estate workers. Once you arrive at the small but charming hill station of Nanu Oya, your driver will pick you up for a visit of Nuwara Eliya. This colonial town in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country is also called “Little England” for its clusters of bright roofed cottages, colonial style club houses and chilly weather.

Day 8: World's End in Horton Plains and Tea Country Waterfalls

Before sunrise, transfer to Horton Plains National Park. Enjoy a leisurely hike to the top of the plateau. It is an easy hike, so you can enjoy the landscape and maybe spot some deer and exotic birds. Here, the must-see is a big cliff called World’s End with bird’s eye views of the beautiful valleys beneath. Bring a picnic breakfast and enjoy the stunning landscapes. Continue the hike, pass through a small forest and reach a waterfall. The whole trail will take about 3-4 hours.

​Take the road and reach the hill country tea plantation region of the island. On the way, you can make multiple stops to enjoy the beautiful landscapes, as well as the waterfalls.

Continue to a tea factory, where you can meet the workers and learn about the process of plucking the tea, “two leaves and one bud” to be exact, as well as the processing of the tea leaf to achieve that signature Ceylon tea flavor.

Upon reaching your destination, visit Bambarakanda falls, the highest waterfall in the country. Or, go for an unforgettable hike of Little Adam’s Peak, Sri Pada’s little sister near the hikers’ beloved town of Ella. Enjoy the sunset.

Day 9: Ella Rock and Elephants in Udawalawe National Park

You can go for a climb of Ella Rock, the hikers’ paradise, with many prestigious treks and scenic destinations. On the way, take the railroad tracks before reaching the top of the rock from where you will see enchanting views. Continue through the eucalyptus forest with the possibility of reaching the Rawana Falls and taking a refreshing swim and a picnic lunch by the water. Otherwise take a fun tuk-tuk safari through the tea plantations of Haputale on the way to Lipton’s Seat.

Then, leave the greenery of the tea country to get on the road to the dryer zones of Udawalawe National Park. Head for a fun afternoon jeep safari through the landscapes made of high-grasses, known for its large population of elephants. You can also see a variety of other wild animals such as crocodiles, giant lizards and a variety of aquatic birds.

Day 10: Surfing and Yoga in Talalla

In the morning, road to the beaches of the South. Enjoy a day at leisure at the hotel, where you can go surfing in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. For yoga lovers, take a rejuvenating session of relaxing exercise and meditation.

Explore the coastline and look for small creeks where you can swim in safety. The south coast is lined with a great number of natural wonders, the giant blue whale being among them, which gives Sri Lanka the well-deserved name of “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”. Also enjoy a deliciously grilled fish in one of the local beachfront restaurants.

Day 11: Cycling in Paddy Fields, Walking in Galle and Rock Climbing

Late in the morning, meet up with your bike guide for a leisurely cycling trip through the countryside. Ride past rice fields, charming villages and beautiful gardens. Take a break to enjoy a refreshing sip of coconut water. The cycling trip will take about an hour and a half.

Continue along the coast to Galle. Upon reaching the fort, go for a tour in this photogenic town to explore its cute boutique shops, ramparts for walking, historic churches, museums and a beautiful white lighthouse. Many tiny yet fine restaurants and shops are tucked away in the narrow streets. Sample the best ice cream in Sri Lanka or enjoy a crepe on the way!

Take the highway in the direction of Colombo, where you can go rock climbing. The level is not difficult, so even a beginner can enjoy the spectacular views of the lush countryside once atop of the rock.

Continue to Colombo for overnight before your early departure the next day to Maldives.
