If, during your trip to Russia, you want to explore vast, open spaces, then I can highly recommend this reserve , which will plunge you into a wilder side of the country. I arrived from Irkoutsk to the southwest via the only road that accesses the reserve.
I then hopped on a boat so as to get deeper into the reserve and I have to say I loved it! Crossing Lake Baïkal reminded me of a sea crossing, due to its immense size. It's isolated and feels like the world's end. For several days I marvelled at its incredible purity - a savage paradise if ever there was. You can rent little wooden chalets if you plan to stay for a while - a great idea if you hope to fully immerse yourself in the Lena Reserve!
