Terminus: Manakara It’s the final station on the FCE line: Fianarantsoa- Côte Est, the only railway line in the whole of Madagascar. Over here, it is best not to be in any hurry... it will take you at least 12 hours to end up in Mankara! But the trip is well worth it: mountains passing by, traveller's palm forests, bamboo, litchis, and even passing through Ranomafana forest will all be part of the adventure…

My suggestion:
For a swim, you must go round to Trou du Commissaire, an enclave protected by a coral reef.
My review

The town is located on the southeast coast, at the mouth of the Manakara river. It is split into two by the Canal des Pangalanes . The coast here is wild and a canoe ride will show you the quaint fishing villages that border it. But let us get back to town: on one side, the modern district of Tanambo, on the other, the old town and its colonial style houses. On the market, the local produce such as pepper or litchis is not to be missed!

Manakara is the right place for taking it easy. Bicycle rides alongside the ocean are magical.
