The Sainte Marie region is good for observing humpback whales that come there to breed from July to September. The breaching and flipper play, basically the love dance of these cetaceans is a spectacle you won't want to miss during your trip to Madagascar !
The Ambatovaky Reserve is only accessible by navigating two hours up the Marimbona River. The reserve covers more than 230 square miles. You can see a dozen species of lemurs, as well as the serpent eagle, one of the rarest raptor species in the world.
As for traditions, certain days are sacred in this region. So you will never see a farmer using a metal tool or working in his rice fields on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Sundays!
