This itinerary has been crafted by our Local Agency with one idea in mind: to inspire you. Every element can be adapted to your needs and your interests, from duration to accommodation and activities.

Day 1: Welcome to Costa Rica !

Landing at the Juan Santamaria International Airport near San José, at 1150 meters above sea level in the heart of the Central Valley.


First contact with Costa Rica, your private driver will give you your travel documents and will take you to your hotel.


Night at Sleep Inn hotel.

Day 2: Head to San Carlos Valley

Morning departure to the north of the country near the border with Nicaragua.


Arrival in San Carlos Valley, where you will drive to Pital. The adventure begins here: you will leave the comfort of a paved road to take a track up to the village Boca Tapada.


You will go on the trails of the lodge with your local guide who will teach you all about the nocturnal wildlife.


Dinner and night at Maquenque Lodge.

Day 3: Birdwatching in Boca Tapada

Early in the morning, stroll with your local guide through the gardens and the swamp of the reserve before entering the rainforest. The Maquenque refuge is home to the Ara ambigua and many other bird species .


In the afternoon, visit the lodge garden and will plant a tree on the property.


Suggested activities:

- Horseback riding

- Visit to the town El Castillo in Nicaragua

- Canoeing in the lagoon

Day 4: Observe the local flora and fauna

Today, discover the area by boat, great way to immerse yourself in nature and observe the local flora and fauna (birds, crocodiles etc.).


Stop at the small local school and share a moment with students and teachers. On the way back, stop at Finca Doña Flor, for a tour and tasting of local products.


Lunch at the lodge.


Note : 4hrs tour; from 8:30 to 12:30.


Drive to the La Fortuna and its impressive Arenal volcano (1,635 meters), where you will spend the night.


Note: about 3h-drive.


Drive to the lodge which is 45 minutes from La Fortuna.


At dusk, go for a walk with a guide and explore the tropical forest when most animals start to wake up. Try and spot numerous insects, some owls and even snakes and more than 15 species of frogs.


Night at La Tigra Rainforest Lodge.

Day 5: Enjoy the trails of the lodge

Free morning to enjoy the trails of the lodge which will lead you to a belvedere with a superb view of the San Carleña plain and the mountains of the Juan Castro Blanco National Park.


In the early afternoon, take a guided walk on the trails of the Lodge until you reach an area for reforestation. You may plant a tree and in the future can follow the progress of the project.


You can then enjoy a moment of relaxation in the hot springs (termas del valle).

Day 6: Head to Monteverde

Free morning then hit the road again.


Head to Monteverde, which reserve offers alpine pastures landscapes in the heart of the Tilaràn cordillera. Monteverde is worldly famous for its cloudy tropical forest which contributes to the reputation of Costa Rica as an ecotouristic country, it also shelters extraordinary fauna and vegetation.


On the way, enjoy the stunning view on the Arenal lake, that actually looks like a fresh water sea. You will pass Tilaran, Quebrada Grande and Cabaceras before reaching the clouds forest typical of the area and finally Santa Elena.


Note: approximately 3 hour-drive.

Day 7: Tarzan Swing in Selvatura Park

Today, let's fly through 15 cables and 18 platforms with an optional Tarzan Swing at the end of the adventure. Selvatura Park is one of the longest Canopy Tours in Costa Rica. Day 8: Enjoy leisure day in Monteverde reserve

Free day to enjoy the region from the wide variety of possible activities: you can take a hike in the reserve Monteverde and Santa Elena, then try the adventure of the treetops suspended on wires above canopy, discover the jewels of the rainforest at Selvatura Park, visit La Lechería, a cheese factory created in 1953 by Quakers from the United States, and of course go in search of the mystical Quetzal.

Day 9: Pacific coast of Costa Rica

Departure to the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, in the vicinity of Dominical, a small seaside city, popular with surfers, located along the brown sand beach at the mouth of the Río Barú.


You may observe crocodiles on the Rio Tarcoles before reaching Quepos, a high place of sport fishing and production of palm oil.

Day 10: Head to Manuel Antonio National Park

Today, head to Manuel Antonio National Park, its stunning beaches, coral reef and great fauna and flora variety. Swim in the cristal clear waters, relax on the thin sand beaches, walk in the tropical vegetation...


This is the perfect place to watch numerous animals such as sloths or squirrel monkeys.


Important: limited entries per day, we advise you to go there as soon as it opens.


Note: The park is closed on Mondays.

Day 11: Experience Costa Rica's most striking coastlines

Come and experience one of Costa Rica’s most striking coastlines by open-seat ocean kayak. 
The adventure begins near the Pez Vela (Sail Fish) Marina in Quepos and winds along the Manuel Antonio coastline. Indulge yourselves at a rare jewel of a beach – the hidden Manuel Antonio treasure Biezans Bay – for a refreshing swim and delicious local snacks.


And feel free to have your bilingual naturalist guide direct you to the best snorkeling spots as you experience three small but growing, active, and astounding coral reef systems nestled very close to the shore of Biezans Bay.


After an unforgettable experience at Biezans, continue paddling towards Manuel Antonio National Park and admire the nearby nesting islands which exotic booby birds and frigates call home all year round.


And finally end your adventure with a rewarding lunch in typical Costa Rican mannernear the beach at a local Manuel Antonio hot spot before returning to your residence.

Day 12: End of trip

Free time and return to reach the Costa Rican capital.


Three hours before departure, return your vehicle to the Juan Santamaria Airport and take the shuttle to your international flight back home.


Note: About 4 hour drive.


IMPORTANT: depending on the time of your international flight, plan to sleep in San Jose the night before.
