During your trip across Canada, you'll be met by one natural wonder after the other, be it on or off the tourist trail. But none of them have the lofty reputation of the Niagara Falls, which attract millions of tourists from all over the world, who descend in droves for a once in a lifetime experience.

Visiting the iconic Niagara Falls is something you will never forget and you no doubt heard about them before even setting foot in the country. Most people carry an image of these horse-shoe cascades in their head and their roar is probably already ringing in your ears. But there are other sides to this romantic image, apparent the moment you arrive... crowds and profit-making!

The Niagara Falls are a money spinner and the sole source of income for thousands of people. Consequently, nothing's for free, be it parking, meals, activities or entertainment. And, as you can imagine, nothing's cheap. Having a flutter in the casino may be a solution...

Despite what you may think, simply admiring the falls is not the only reason why tourists visit this part of Canada. There are plenty of fun things to do in and around the area! You can hop on a small boat that cruises the foot of the falls, explore tunnels carved into the rock faces or, if you're not faint-hearted, go kayaking along the rapids!

A word of advice - go during winter or early in the morning before the hoards arrive for a less frenzied experience . With a bit of luck, in winter you may find another incredible sight - frozen cascades ! Another regional plus - tourism has led to the creation of outlets, including a mammoth factory price shopping centre. With so many now in place, you can snap up some great bargains.
