I once went through Saudarkrokur during a tour of Iceland when I was travelling between Vatnses and Akureyri. I remember a village which lay all the way along the waterfront, a strong smell of dried shrimp, and a beautiful blue building in the centre which turned out to be the best restaurant in town: you can't miss it. Apart from that, the town had no great charm. It was just nice to drive through and stop there long enough for a short walk.
For Iceland, Saudarkrokur is actually rather large with almost 3,000 inhabitants. If you want to go hiking on the Skagi Peninsula, the town can serve as a great base. But I prefer accommodation in the countryside which is far away from everything so that I can fully appreciate the Icelandic nature.
