Hvolsvöllur (Iceland)

Larger than Hella, I found the village of Hvolsvöllur to have less charm, but like every important town between Reykjavik and Vik, it may provide an interesting option for those who want to discover the region and even to stay a few days to discover Skogar and Landmannalaugar, for example.

Hvolsvöllur is the home of the Saga Centre, an interesting museum which retraces the history of the Sagas (only open between May and September). I really liked the reconstitutions of scenes and the objects on display in relation to the time of the Vikings and the first inhabitants of the island. 

Finally, if you want to draw a cross on Icelandic food for a day, the Gallery offers very good pizza, much to the delight of the locals!
