Hike off the beaten track in the Landmannalaugar area

ActiveIceland

Looking to spend several days discovering Iceland's rich landscapes, like glacial rivers and thermal springs, via hiking? Then, the Laugavegur hiking trail is the perfect spot for you. Hike for a few days, or an entire week, and experience the island’s most beautiful trek from Skógar to Landmannalaugar. Here, you can admire magnificent landscapes that line the route.

Observe green plains, such as Mælifellsandur, as well as lava fields and volcanoes, adorned with unusual colors, like the Brennisteinsalda Volcano, with its green, yellow, red, and ochre hues. Your departure point for this trek can either be Landmannalaugar or Thorsmork (Þórsmörk).

Both villages are considered the endpoint of the 34-mile long Laugavegur route, while experienced hikers can continue to Skógar. During this hike, enjoy one of a kind views, including the Fimmvörðuháls Pass between the Mýrdalsjökull Glacier and the famous Eyjafjallajökull Volcano. The Skógafoss, a monumental 203-foot high waterfall, will be the highlight of your adventure.
