Reviews of Yad VaShem

Outside of the old centre of Jerusalem, the Yad Vashem memorial is undoubtedly the must-see museum in the 'Holy City' .

My suggestion:
Set aside half a day to explore Yad Vashem and don't forget that it is closed from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening.
My review

From the Herzl Mount tram station, it is very easy to find your way to the entrance: you will notice the History museum, the main building of the memorial, which traces quite clearly part of the Star of David.

With the lessons on the Shoah up to me during the year of my course, I spent all my time in the education rooms, very well done, where the information about historic events, written on long boards, was supported by photographs and archived footage from the period.

A shiver will run down your spine when visiting the monuments and spaces which form the memorialofYad Vashem: the Righteous Among the Nations, Hall of Remembrance, Children's Memorial, and especially the livestock wagon - uncovered as a wagon of the Deutsche Reichsbahn which served to transport the dead.

You should really make sure you visit here during your trip to Israel.

The Yad Vashem memorial is entirely dedicated to the memory of all that happened during the Holocaust. It was built on the outskirts of Jerusalem.

My suggestion:
The Yad Vashem memorial is something that will affect you profoundly. To find a glimmer of hope after such strong emotion, I recommend you spend some time in the Garden of the Righteous before leaving the museum.
My review

It was during my first visit to Israel that I went to the Yad Vashem memorial. For me, it was important to increase my knowledge on this subject in order to better understand certain aspects of the Israeli culture.

If you decide to visit, you must bear in mind that often theYad Vashem memorial shows the horrors of the Holocaust in a very direct way. The museum brings this period of history to life for the visitors through the personal stories and possessions of the victims. The site is very large and it is very difficult to take it all in quickly as the subject is so deeply moving. Therefore it is advisable to set aside a full half day for your visit.
