The splendid Tiger Leaping Gorge, about a hundred kilometres north of Lijiang in the province of Yunnan, has some of the deepest and most majestic canyons in the world.

My suggestion:
Don't try it during the rainy season because the mountain slides can be dangerous. Apart from that, breathtaking scenery and excitement guaranteed!
My review

For nearly 17 km, the Yangtze winds between the Jade Dragon and Haba mountains, carving out breath taking landscapes. The gorges owe their name to a legendary tiger who jumped over the canyon to escape a hunter.

The trekking path over the gorges leaves from the village of Qiaotou and winds through waterfalls, view points and Naxi villages. Although the two day trek is relatively easy it is nonetheless impressive. In some places the valley is dominated by peaks that are more than 5,000 m high!

Found in northwest of Yunnan Province, the town of Lijiang sits at 2,600m high on a plateau that is surrounded by mountains and the sinous Yangtze (or Yangzi Jiang) River.

My review

Situated in the heart of a stunning landscape, Lijiang has two personalities. On the one hand you'll find a UNESCO classified old town, full of charm and architectural delights. This ancient Naxi capital, has kept a traditional appeal with winding streets, low houses, bridges and canals. At the other end of the scale, you'll come across modern buildings and contemporary living.

Take your time to explore Lijiang and its region - its cultural and natural attractions are worth every cent. I recommend you take a hike to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain or the Tiger Leaping Gorge. There are also the ancient towns of Baisha Naxi, Shuhe and Yuhu, not forgetting Lake Lugu and the town of Dali.
