Banff: What to see in the surroundings?
What our travelers think about their stay
Banff is an area and little town in Alberta at the south of the Rocky Mountains. It's close to numerous reserves and mountain lakes, the famous Lake Louise being just one.
My suggestion
If you want to avoid the touristy Lake Louise, you've also got Lakes Bow, Moraine, Minnewanka and Hector. The town of Banff is the perfect base from which to discover the region and has plenty of B&Bs, although you should reserve in advance during the summer.
Deep in the heart of the National Park with which it shares its name, and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Banff is a mountain resort located 128 km from Calgary. It's a picture-postcard city, with a main street that is dominated by the impressive Cascade Mountain.
My suggestion
Make sure you visit the souvenir shops on Banff Avenue and enjoy some delicious fudge while you're there. Visit Cave and Basin by following the path shown. Relax in the natural spa.

Within Banff National Park lies Lake Louise, which is simply unmissable. Its turquoise waters and the frozen summit overlooking it make for an awe-inspiring scene; in short, this is one of the essential places to visit in this region of Canada.
