The Fumaça Waterfall("smoke" in Portuguese) is appropriately named. The combination of the fall's height and the wind means that the water never reaches the ground: it evaporates, forming a mist. It's impressive to see, to say the least!

Like all the sites to visit at Chapada, the spectacle is a magical one. After a two-hour walk offering exceptional panoramic views over the Capão Valley, you reach the highest point on the hike: the viewpoint at the top of the falls, almost 400 meters high. Yes, very high indeed. The wind is strong up there, and the more courageous lie flat on the ground to get closer views of the waterfall. The overall view is stunning, and the vegetation lush. Once you get there, you'll understand why this is the most visited spot in the area: it's quite simply magnificent.

This is yet another example of how Brazil has so much more to offer than just its beaches! It's a huge country, but if you do decide to go to the North, be sure to include this wonder of nature on your itinerary.  You won't be disappointed!
