Reviews of Malbork

The town of Malbork is home to an incredible Gothic castle constructed from red bricks. One of Poland's most impressive castles, it is actually the largest in Europe.

My suggestion:
Stay in Gdańsk if possible, from where you can easily get to the castle by train (a half-hour trip of around 18.5 miles) or by car.
My review

I went to Malbork without really knowing what to expect there during my trip to Poland. The only interesting thing the town has to offer is its castle (which is well worth visiting). Once I got up close to what is one of the most extraordinary and best preserved buildings you could imagine, I found myself mightily impressed! The interior of Malbork Castle is almost as impressive as its exterior, with its exceptionally large number of rooms (which you can visit), its dungeons, and the many exhibitions there are on display, such as one about amber, which is found in abundance in the local region.

The downside is that the town of Malbork itself is as ugly as the castle is beautiful: it is simply made up of a succession of concrete buildings and is completely lacking in charm. It's difficult to believe that such a beautiful castle could be located in an environment like this!
