Discover Costa Rica by bicycle

ActiveCosta Rica

Costa Ricans are passionate about cycling. Thanks to thousands of miles of hills and valleys, their country is the perfect setting for exploring on two wheels.

Beautiful and accessible trails offer a different, more leisurely approach to discovering Costa Rica. Cycling through mountains, forests, plains, and alongside beaches is a great way to take in the diversity of the landscape. Throughout your journey, you can take breaks whenever you like to visit the towns and villages along the way.

For more relaxed rides, explore the areas around Samara and Tamarindo along the Pacific coast, where you'll pedal past gorgeous beaches and perhaps even uncover hidden spots. There are also the trails that leave from San José and lead you on a journey to the Poas and Irazu volcanoes and the magnificent Orosi valley.

If you're on the more adventurous side, why not give mountain biking a try? Volcanic slopes and mountainous terrain make for perfect outdoor playgrounds. The mountain bike trails near Arenal are excellent, as are the routes around Tilaran and Guanacaste. You can also go for rides in the Talamanca mountain range with its rocky trails.

To get the most out of your experience, we recommend planning your mountain bike excursion during the dry season between December and April with the help of a local Evaneos agency. During the wet season, trails often become inaccessible. Don't forget to wear a helmet, gloves, and elbow pads.
