Pula has some wonderful architectural heritage to offer, with its exceptionally well-preserved amphitheatre a notable example of this. Visiting the city and immersing yourself in this historical past is a very enjoyable experience.
My suggestion:
For an experience a little out of the ordinary, head to the reinforced tunnel designed to act as a shelter during the Austro-Hungarian war and which is today open to the public.
My review
Pula is a very beautiful city located in the southern Istria region of Croatia and, with its little streets and the architectural heritage it has to offer, an enjoyable place to spend one or two days strolling around and exploring. It is best to begin at the amphitheatre then continue on from there to the other historical buildings and monuments, such as the Golden Gate and the Temple of Augustus.
When you are walking around Pula, your feet will no doubt lead you at some point to the Forum, which is a lively, animated area with lots of bars. I like to get away from the noise and commotion in the early evening and head up to the heights of the city where the castle stands to watch the sunset, returning back down afterwards to enjoy a local speciality in one of the city's restaurants.
Another unusual place to visit away from the city centre is the aquarium, which is housed in a former fortress! Finally, and for a trip off the beaten track, head out from Pula to visit and explore the Brijuni Islands and the wild and protected peninsula of Premantura.
