Situated on the northern shore of Lake Alumine, Villa Pehuenia's scenery is typical of the Patagonian Andes: emerald-coloured glacier lakes, snowy peaks and araucaria pine forests. The town was built in the 90's on former Mapuchean land and is watched over by the Batea Mahuida Volcano. 
During summer, Villa Pehuenia's residents enjoy fly fishing, kayaking and horse riding. During winter they hit the powdery slopes and go skiing, snowshoeing and snow boarding.
A stop at Villa Pehuenia is not necessarily a must and I ended up there by chance during my trip to Argentina, as I was crossing the Neuquén Province; I suggest you head to San Martin de los Andes or Bariloche, where you'll find a wider range of activities and better amenities.
