I first came across the vast stretch of Lake Vättern from the bus, letting it unravel before my eyes, its water smooth like a mirror. I went down to Gränna to take a ferry to the big island of Visingsö. It was there that above all I was able to see the famous Lake Vättern with its water that's so pure that 240,000 people drink it daily.
Almost deserted in the winter months, Visingsö Island livens up on sunny days. Many Swedes actually have second homes there. The ideal destination for those who love to meet the locals therefore. But also for those with a thirst for nature. I really liked walking in Visingsö, the water of the lake is visible from every side to the narrowest places on the island, its thousand colours and reflections varying with the light of the day. I went for walking, but others prefer cycling or even horse riding.
