A very small island of the Okinawa archipelago that is only a few miles in circumference.

My suggestion:
Hiring a bicycle makes it possible to explore this island at your own pace. Be careful, nevertheless, of typhoons which can make access to and exploration of the island very difficult, if not impossible.
My review

A day or two on Taketomi Island gives the impression of going back in time. There are no tarred roads, the lanes are made of crushed shells and the low walls from volcanic stone. Carts dragged by zebus are used on agricultural farms and also for transporting tourists.

Should you hire a bicycle, you will easily be able to do the tour of this tiny island. Do not hesitate to stop in the shops that sell handicrafts and local food.

There are many beaches and they are easily accessible. Some of them are known for their star-shaped fine sand. As in most places in Okinawa, you can snorkel and see many tropical fish. Many more or less wild cats live on the edge of the forest and the beach.
