Reviews of Kochi

Shikoku's most southern city, in southwest Japan.

My suggestion:
Kochi, an industrial harbour city, is far from being the most beautiful panorama Shikoku has to offer, but will make do as a stop over for one night or a few hours.
My review

Kochi is not the most interesting city of Shikoku, but it does present some centres of interest:

- the castle is rather well preserved, and inside, different life scenes like whale hunting have been recreated.

- Chikuri-jin temple is part of the 88 temple pilgrimage.

- Makino botanical garden to visit in spring, during the blossoming of the plum and cherry trees. It is accessible on foot from Chikuri-jin temple.

- the Sunday market is the chance to discover the local products in season: yuzu lemons that come in a wide range of shapes, dried or half-cooked bonito...

- the clock opposite the little red bridge near the covered gallery becomes animated every hour on the hour; worth seeing if you happen to be in the area at the right time.

- Katsurahama is the opportunity for a walk on the beach. A nearby mini maritime centre displays dolphins, sea lions and seals shut up in small pools. To be avoided in order not to encourage such practices.

- the Anpanman museum, about the hero of the cartoon for kids, will certainly enchant children.
