The Cordillera Real are a hiker's paradise. With huge valleys, snow-laden passes, wild animals, shimmering lakes and numerous hiking trails, the scenery and landscapes offered by this mountain range, most of which reach between 16,400 ft and 19,700 ft in height, are quite unique. The mountains are also home to Indigenous people called the Aymara, with whom it's actually possible to stay overnight.
Laguna Tres Picos is a beautiful mountainous lake located at the foot of the Tres Picos glacier and reaching an altitude of 15,223ft. The route you have to take to get to it includes some fairly steep paths and trails. Be prepared for some memorable climbs and descents! After a brief pause at the lake, it was time to head to Laguna Khota Pat, located a little lower down at 14,630ft. This is where the Aymara come to fish for trout. After spending the night at the Refugio Santos mountain refuge, it was time to continue on again, this time to Laguna Ajwani.
