Running along the Argentinian and Chilean borders, Uturuncu Volcano is located in one of the most beautiful regions in Bolivia: the province of Sur Lipez.

My suggestion:
Ascending Uturuncu (reputed to be easy), can be done in an all-terrain vehicle then on foot.
My review

You can discover Uturuncu Volcano in Bolivia, in the heart of the Cordillera Occidental, in the stunning painter's palette that is the province of Sur Lipez. This border volcano (it's located 35 km from the Argentinian border and 60 km from the Chilean border), with a peak at an altitude of 6,008 m, has the unique feature of being semi-dormant. Its magmatic activity is constant and you can see smoke and gas coming out of its crater. Despite these alarming signs, scientists estimate that the pot of lava hasn't erupted for 200,000 years.

I haven't tried it myself, but it's possible to climb to the summit of Uturuncu in a 4x4, then on foot. Count on a good hour of walking. Trekking isn't your thing? No problem, take the road to Laguna Colorada from Laguna Verde or Salar de Uyuni.
