Endless fjords surrounded by snowy forests with magical sunsets... Welcome to Tierra del Fuego, the land of the blue glaciers. The best way to explore these ice giants is to sail along the Beagle Channel.
During my third day aboard Via Australis I saw Garibaldi and Pia glaciers. After passing through some breathtaking scenery the boat headed towards the north-west arm of the Beagle Channel. As we got closer we could hear enormous blocks of ice breaking away and falling into the glacial waters of the channel.
A few minutes later we saw Garibaldi Fjord and the glacier with the same name. Keep your sun glasses on so you aren't blinded by the bluey whiteness of this colossal glacier. Next we were dazzled by the beauty and brightness of Pia Glacier. As the weather was good we climbed aboard the zodiac to have a closer look at them. You feel alone in the world surrounded by such wild and beautiful scenery... Argentine and Chilean Patagonia is unfolding all its beauty for you. The time flies by and its soon time to go back on the boat and explore la Avenida de los Glaciares or Glacier Avenue.
It's a great experience for nature lovers who are good sailors but beware, the waters of the Beagle Channel can be capricious...
