Fertile Valley, or Valle Fértil, is a department located northeast of San Juan. It contains Ischigualasto Park, whose main access point is the town of San Agustín del Valle Fértil, and also Talampaya Park.

My suggestion:
With a little planning, it is possible to visit Ischigualasto Park and Talampaya Park, 50 miles away, in one day.
My review

Fertile Valley, or Valle Fértil in Spanish, takes its name from the lush green valleys that contrast with the lunar and desert landscapes in San Juan province. Its main city, San Agustín del Valle Fértil, is a pretty quaint hamlet of around 4,000 people.

Despite the influx of tourists that pass through the village to get to Ischigualasto Park, better known as Valley of the Moon, San Agustín del Valle Fértil has retained its charm of yesterday. Most of its inhabitants are descendants of the Diaguitas Indians and earn their living from tourism, crafts or agriculture. In San Agustín del Valle Fértil, time seems to have stood still, and it's not unusual to come across horse-drawn carts.

A few miles from the village, you can visit the sanctuary of Difunta Correa and learn more about the legend of this abandoned woman and the Jesuit ruins of Las Tumanas. About 150 miles away in San Juan, don't miss a tasting of vino blanco (white wine) and vino espumante (a type of local champagne), the wine specialities of the region.
