A stunning lake in Argentinian Patagonia and a great alternative to other tourist-ridden sites in the region.

My suggestion:
Prepare a picnic to eat on banks - it's so lovely you'll be tempted to lounge around all day.
My review

This part of Patagonia is famous for its numerous lakes and fairy tale landscapes - hence the reason why it's referred to as the lake region. If you find yourself in this neck of the woods during your trip to Argentina, you'll undoubtedly embark on the legendary 7 Lakes Route.

However, towards the end of your tour, you may find yourself too tired/unmotivated/bored of lakes at the expense of missing out the beautiful Lake Steffen. BIG mistake! The lake is nestled in an extraordinary setting and its water is an hypnotic colour. Another plus - if the weather's fine you'll be able to take some great shots.

But the most surprising aspect is that it's a favourite spot for fly fishing. That may not be enough to convince you to tour its banks but, reading between the lines, its shows how quiet and peaceful it is.

I stopped and set up camp there en route between Bariloche and Boison; note that the path to the lake is a bit haphazard towards the end. Several lakeside walks lead to a waterfall... and in my case an impromptu aperitif opposite the cascades and to the sound of birdsong. Yet an other unforgettable memory of my trip!
