Catamarca is a province in the north west of Argentina whose capital is San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca.

My suggestion:
If you are going to this isolated province during your trip to Argentina, then make sure you visit the Laguna Blanca Biosphere Reserve which is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
My review

Catamarca is one of the provinces of North West Argentina. along with Jujuy, Salta and Tucuman. It's less well known than the others but this high mountain area that is covered with puna is well worth a visit.

Some of the things I loved: the charming colonial church of San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca; Laguna Blanca Biosphere Reserve and the lake with the same name, (which is also somewhere you can find lots of local craftsmen); the thousands of rocks on the sand dunes of Campo de Piedra Pomez; the Salar del Hombre Muerto at the foot of the Galan volcano; the red waters of Ojo de Agua and the emerald waters of Laguna del Peinado.

Catamarca is a hidden region far from the usual tourist circuit, which has some rare and well preserved natural wonders. Go explore it...
