A town in the Mendoza province and often used as a stopover for travellers heading to Puente del Inca (at the entrance to Aconcagua).
My suggestion:
Make sure you have enough cash on you, particularly if you're heading towards Chile. It's the last town in Argentina with cashpoint machines before you cross the border... And they are often empty or only able to dispense a small amount of cash.
My review
Uspallata does attract a lot of tourists, and is pretty much the jewel of the region. Jean-Jacques Annaud and his crew came here to shoot 'Seven Years In Tibet' as the landscape resembled the Himalayas - vast arid lands and stunning mountain ranges. One place you won't forget if you stop off during your trip to Argentina is the 'Buddha Bar', which is covered with photographs taken when the crew was on site, albeit several years ago.
I stayed here for several days (partly due to a cash flow problem) and loved it. The town itself doesn't have much on offer, but the surroundings are sublime. The mountains reflect tones of blue. With its stunning scenery, the region is well worth a visit!
