Chuy is a small town of about 10,000 people in the region of Rocha in Uruguay, just over 300km away from Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay. The small seaside resort lies halfway between Uruguay and Brazil. The Uruguayan Chuy is separated from the Brazilian Chuí by one road, "Avenida International". As an example, this street is called "Avenida Brasil" on the Uruguayan side and "Avenida Uruguay" on the Brazilian side.
Aside from its pretty little white sand beaches next to the Atlantic Ocean, the town of Chuy is known for its many "free shops", or "duty free" shops. Given the steep Uruguayan prices, those who love shopping and good plans will be in their element! Thanks to its geographical location, Chuy has a mild climate all year round... and it even has samba schools! If you're in the area in February, check out the town's carnival!
