San Antonio de Areco is one of the oldest villages in Argentina and the home of the gaucho.

My suggestion:
Don't miss the Tradition Festival, every year in November. Its THE high point for the village, a festival that is famous throughout the country.
My review

I went to San Antonio de Areco during its Tradition Festival, to see the various horse shows and the parade of the region's gauchos. It was a fascinating experience to be at an event that is so emblematic of Argentine culture and tradition. You can feel the pride of the gauchos, modern day cow-boys, who watch over their herds all year long in the lonely big open spaces of the Pampas.

San Antonio de Areco is a nice place to go for a day or a weekend, to completely get away from the capital. During the rest of the year, just as much as during the Tradition Festival. Its calm tranquility make this an ideal destination for families.

Don't leave San Antonio without having a drink or a meal in the village's most beautiful "pulperia", Esquina de Merti, which is on the main square.
