Little visited by tourists, the Black Sea is one of the best guarded secrets of Turkey.
My suggestion:
If you travel to the east of the coast, don't miss the fishing villages and tea plantations between Trabzon and the Georgian frontier.
My review
I went to the Black Sea coast by chance and I have to admit that it was a very good surprise. Most of the tea grown in the country is grown in this region (which also drinks a lot of it).
The landscape around the Black Sea is very green, and the terraced plantations of perfectly pruned bushes almost reminds you of the Far East. It is also interesting because there are a large number of little fishing villages whose architecture is very different to that in the rest of Turkey. You can stop and eat freshly caught fish. On the Black Sea coast there is also a site which is often missed by visitors during a
trip to Turkey and which nonetheless is spectacular - Sumela monastery, which dates from the 13th century and is built into a cliff.
