At 90km from Arusha, Machame is the departure point for hikers beginning their ascent of Kilimanjaro, along the trail that bears its name, the Machame route.

My suggestion:
This is the last chance you'll have to make sure you're fully prepared. You can, however, buy equipment in the small, village market. Go slow, ('pole pole', as they say), right from the start, as it will help you acclimatize.
My review

Climbing Kilimanjaro has become a big business in the Tanzanian tourist industry. Your fellow hikers would have spent thousands of dollars to have the chance to conquer this giant. And everyone is excited about the prospect of arriving in front the green sign that announces your arrival at the 5,895m of Uhuru Peak. Only 55% will manage to reach the roof of Africa.

At the entrance to Machame, you'll get ready for battle. Before leaving, you will be given a meal. Get your energy up whilst keeping an eye out for monkeys, who will tempted by your samosas. Once you've eaten, I suggest you go and help the porters. Each one has to carry a load that the climb controllers weigh. When ready, the hikers, porters, guides and cooks begin the trek. Everyone is so eager and your heart beats faster, as you take your first steps on this first day. Good luck to everyone!
