Day 1: Welcome to Cape Town!

Your holiday starts in Cape Town with a meet-and-greet and a transfer service from the airport to the hotel for a 3-night stay. This hotel was formerly a garden cottage build for Lady Ann Barnard on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain. Away from the city, this river-side hotel is set in a 7-acre garden facing the slopes of the mountain.

Day 2: Take a Yoga class to relax!

An excellent spa, delectable dining, a roaming giant tortoise and Fair Trade Tourism certification makes this hotel one of the best in Cape Town. Join guided garden walks, a jewellery workshop, relax in the spa or join a yoga class, all optional. A complimentary shuttles service provide access to a nearby shopping centre. Relax at the pool, take a walk or run along the hotel’s running trails and along the river or book a massage or beauty treatment (all optional). We can arrange optional guided trips to Cape Point, Table Mountain, the winelands and further a field.

Day 3: Discover Cape Town in deeper

Day 4: Board on the famous ​Rovos Rail

Your transfer service will collect you at the hotel from where you will be taken to the private lounge at the Cape Town station from. Here you will board this renovated luxury steam train for a 1,600km journey to Pretoria. All meals, most drinks and two off-board activities are included while onboard the train. Accommodation for 2 nights is in private cabins with double or twin beds and en-suite bathroom with shower only.

Late afternoon you will enjoy a tour of the historical Karoo town of Matjiesfontein and car museum where after dinner will be served in the dining cars.

Day 5: A day in the train

Wake up as the train slowly starts to move. Sit in the observation deck and watch the countryside glide by as you sip a glass of wine or indulge your partner in a game of chess. This afternoon the train will stop in Kimberley for a tour of the diamond mining museum and the site of the world’s largest man-made excavation. Tea will be served after the excursion. Remember supper is amulti-course formal affair.

Day 6: Pretoria, the "Jacaranda City"

You will arrive around noon at the Rovos’ station in the "Jacaranda City". Pretoria is home to universities, museums, historical sites including the Union Buildings. In Pretoria, you will be met and transferred to a boutique eco-hotel in the leafy upmarket suburb of Melrose in Johannesburg. The Peech was formerly a private residence and is now owner-managed and a Fair Trade tourism certified eco-boutique hotel. A one-acre garden, outdoor pool, on-site restaurant and gym access mean you have everything you need to relax after your rail journey when you overnight in a garden suite or house room. The walk-in wine cellar (wine tasting evenings are hosted here), lighting-fast free internet and friendly staff should further enhance the welcoming feeling here.

Day 7: Departure

This morning after breakfast a transfer service will take you to the Or Tambo international airport. From here you can extend your stay to join the 6-day beach-and-bush safari (link to beach and bush itinerary) or board your onwards flight.
