Superb Moroccan handicrafts

You will be spoilt for choice to find souvenirs to bring back from Morocco!

The classics

These are the souvenirs that you will find all over the place during a trip to Morocco and which are, in a manner of speaking, representative of the country and its handicrafts: the famous babouches, Moroccan Berber carpets, the famous woollen traditional carpets that are hand-knotted and come in all sizes and patterns, or again tajine pottery dishes in all possible shapes and colours.

Chef Chaouen

To savour...

What is sure to please your family or friends is a packet of oriental pastries which are easily found all over Morocco's markets and souks . It is best to buy relatively dry pastries like sugar-coated shortbread crescents to avoid them running with both the heat and the transport.

From your trip to Morocco , do not omit to bring back some famous argan oil which can be used in food preparation or on the body. Be sure to make sure it is the right oil before you buy it! For body use, it is ideal as a hair or face mask. It is always better to buy it directly from a local women's cooperative.

On all Morocco's markets , you will find lots of spices which are a very nice present for you to take home. Morocco's most famous is Ras-El-Hanout, this mixture of spices which is typical of the country is used in the preparation of tajine and couscous dishes.

Original

For girls, do not hesitate to bring back the famous henna for the hair or for the hands.

Ghassoul clay, used to clear the skin and scalp, will also be a very original gift.

A Moroccan tea set (teapot and tumblers), green tea and dried mint leaves, will enable you to reproduce at home or at your friends' the famous local mint tea.

A narghile or a chicha, with fruit flavoured tobacco, will make an ideal present for a smoker.
