Mazunte and its not so pacific coast

Whatever you choose, you will discover that the ocean wears its name badly it is not so pacific as you would think..

Puerto Escondido or Puerto Angel

For an agreeable stop in a charming fishing port you can choose between Puerto Escondido and Puerto Angel. They are opposite each other. Puerto Escondido has truly lost its former calm. The fishing port has devoured itself little by little to become a seaside resort which has attracted numerous tourists. Its Zicatela beach is particularly well know to surfers. Its powerful waves have become notorious. Here like on the beaches of Bacocho and Marinero, the ocean is very dangerous. The Pacific ocean wears its name inappropriately. To be safer, go to the beaches named; Principale, Angelito, Carrizalillo or Manzanillo.

In a totally different style, Puerto Angel has managed to conserve its charm as a small fishing port. Forget the coastal shores, Puerto Angel is calm, peaceful and relaxing. In the morning you can go on the beach to witness the return of one of the fishing boats. Puerto Angel is certainly the safest place to swim along the coast. Set in a beautiful cove, the Estacahuite beach is absolutely superb.. Well protected by a bay almost closed off, the Principal beach and the Panteon beach are perfect for swimming.

Mazunte and the surrounding area

For fans of calm, tranquility and of quietude, the choice is simple; you should go to San Agustinillo. Perfect for families, the beach bordered by coconut trees is superb and perfect for swimming.

For a quest of tranquility, there will not be very many of you going to Mazunte . Be careful because swimming is much less safe than in San Agustinillo. It is also dangerous there and you will come here above all to see the turtles. You can see them between the months of July and December. They come here to lay their eggs, especially on the beaches of Barra de la Cruz, morro Ayuta and Escobilla.

Zipolite is without any doubt one of the most famous beaches of the country. It has become a favourite seaside resort for nudists, the gay community, surfers and young hippies. It is highly recommended that you stay, to have a party. The beach here is one of the most dangerous in the country. The currents are incredibly powerful and many people die here every year. The beach therefore has the name Playa de los Muertos. The Pacific ocean has never born its name so badly as here. To sum up, take your time in choosing the beach that suits you best on this part of the Pacific coastline.
