Located to the south of Split, Makarska is one of the main summer tourist destinations in Croatia.

My suggestion:
If you want to spend your holiday at the beach with a cocktail in your hand and going to never-ending parties in the evening, then you're in the right place. If you want a little more adventure, keep on going!
My review

A small town with about 15,000 inhabitants, Makarska seems to sleep during the year and wait for the summer when its beautiful beaches and facilities attract thousands of tourists from Croatia and all over the world.

While the historical centre of Makarska town is quite interesting with its historic, narrow, cobbled streets and Franciscan monastery, the town is completely focused on mass tourism and, as such, seems to have lost some of its charm. Here, everything is done to ensure that you have the most relaxing holiday possible with many hotel resorts on the waterfront as well as restaurants/bars/beach clubs.

But this isn't necessarily my idea of a holiday, and so I didn't particularly enjoy Makarska during my stay in Croatia. You'll find equally beautiful beaches on neighbouring islands without having to end up next to hundreds of towels...
