- Nature Reserve / Wildlife Observation / Safari
Situated inland, not far from the border with Bosnia, Plitvice Lakes National Park is an incredible natural gem, where you will find a maze of turquoise lakes and waterfalls in the middle of a lush forest. The different colours and shadows give an almost unreal impression of the site, as if it had emerged from a cartoon.
I was deeply impressed by this location and believe it is an unmissable stop during any holiday in Croatia. However, I should say that the influx of tourists (especially in summer) can detract from the pleasure and interesting features of the national park. Some days, Plitvice just seems to be full, so much so that you can't really enjoy the experience. I would advise anybody looking to visit Plitvice without the stress, to visit during winter, when the trees are blanketed by a layer of powdery snow, giving the spot an enchanting impression.
