I was quite impressed by both the location here and the imposing castle itself, which can be seen from a long distance away on the road. Round in form, sturdy in structure, and very well preserved and renovated, it stands as a fine example of medieval defensive architecture. Nevertheless, I did find the castle's interior spaces to be quite unimpressive, with the lack of furniture making them feel somewhat lifeless.
Veliki Tabor also has various museum displays housed inside it, such as an interesting collection of vintage cars, an exhibition of early pharmaceutical recipes, and a display of swords and armour. In summary, I would not recommend making a special detour just to see Veliki Tabor; but if the castle happens to lie on the route you are taking through Croatia, it can be quite a good place to spend half a day.
