Formerly a dock area, the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront was redeveloped into a fashionable quarter in the space of just a few years.

My suggestion:
Visit at the weekend when it's at its liveliest.
My review

A bit like the country itself, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is a cosmopolitan place, and it's also particularly safe. Without wanting to make you unduly concerned, this won't always be the case on your trip to South Africa.

With its restaurants, hotels, bars, shops and huge luxury shopping centres, the site has plenty to keep both tourists and Cape Town residents entertained. From street performances to shows and traditional dancing, there's always something happening at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront. Children – and even grown-ups – will love the large aquarium here. The waterfront is also where the ferries to Robben Island leave from.
