Puerto Vallarta is a beautiful seaside town on the north Pacific coast. Along with its huge bay and luxuriant vegetation, the town has preserved some of its colonial charm.

My suggestion:
Puerto Vallarta is the seaside town of choice for Mexicans who are on holiday. It's essential to make a reservation during the holiday period or you will end up sleeping on the beach.
My review
On the north, Pacific, coast, Puerto Vallarta is a good place to discover during a trip to Mexico. Every holiday season the big, beautiful, bay, is thronged with Mexicans and tourists. Unlike Acapulco and Cancun, the seaside town still has a certain colonial charm and isn't a total "gringo land".

Bahia de Banderas, in the state of Jalisco, facing the Pacific ocean. It's also one of the major tourist spots on the west coast.

My suggestion:
The beaches between Jalisco and Nayarit are truly magnificent, and lined with greenery. On the other hand, Puerto Vallarta's concrete - yuk! You're better off leaving your suitcases or back packs in the surrounding villages!
My review
Puerto Vallarta is a big port that is becoming THE tourist destination on the Pacific coast of Mexico, given the bad press that Acapulco is currently getting (violence, drugs, ...), and the hurricanes that you often get in the Gulf of California.
