 Chichen Itza is an old Mayan town on the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. It is wonderfully well preserved. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the 7 new wonders of the world. What else can I say!

Chiapas is one of the essential places to see when <a href="/mexico/">visiting Mexico</a>. The region's attraction to tourists is undeniable. Its mountains are covered in lush jungle; the experience of meeting indigenous people is always very emotionally affecting; and the chance to ecnounter Zapatistas incredibly instructive. Amongst the main sites is of course that of Palenque, which is inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage. Other places to visit and discover are Agua Azul, Comitán, Chamula and San Cristóbal de las Casas.
