To the east of Guanajuato State, this is a colourful, colonial city.
My suggestion:
San Miguel is also a great place to shop for unusual gifts. The numerous gallerys and jewelry shops have lovely, Mexican creations with a modern twist!
My review
In 2013, San Miguel de Allende was voted 'Best City in the World' by readers of a well known, travel glossy. Its location in an area that has great weather all year round and its stunning architecture no doubt helped secure this title. Its multi-cultural character is also a big plus. For many years now, Americans and Europeans have moved there to retire and spend their golden years enjoying a Mexican lifestyle. So, if you pay the city a visit during
your trip to Mexico, , don't be surprised if you see a few grey hairs and hear some British accents!
