A Mexican city lying on the northeast part of the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun, the world capital of mass tourism, has undergone a rapid transformation in recent years. The city is very famous amongst Americans, who come to celebrate their spring break here.
My suggestion:
Don't stay in Cancún for long. Unless you've come to party in a place no longer bearing any resemblance to the real Mexico, you'll be wasting your time.
My review
Cancún, from what I could see
on a trip to Mexico, has lost all its traditional charm and authenticity. Its location, however, is truly superb. What a pity! Because the sand bank on which it stands, surrounded by crystal clear water, has been ravaged, overexploited, and covered in hotels and other buildings. The beaches are dirty too. It truly is an eyesore. They've achieved what they wanted, however, because each year thousands of Americans come here to celebrate their famous spring break. As a party destination, of course, it's great: drinks galore, yacht-based cruises/night clubs day and night, discos on the beach with the sand between your toes, and an endless supply of alcohol. If you go there knowing what you're in for, with the sole aim of partying, then fine. Otherwise head somewhere else.
