Ankavandra is located at the foot of the Bongolava plateau and at the edge of the Manambolo River, which you can go down in a canoe to get to the village of Bekopaka, at the entrance of the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park, a place you must visit duringa stay in Madagascar.
Once important thanks to the cultivation of cotton and tobacco, the city of Ankavandra has fallen somewhat into oblivion. The flight connecting it to Tsiroanomandidy has even been removed. Therefore, you can get to it after crossing the Bongolava plateau and its stretches of grassy hills with carved out lavakas, before reaching the end of the plateau and beginning the steep descent towards the city. After a night in bivouac tents on the banks of the Manambolo, you slowly start down the river in little canoes.
