Reviews of Alghero

Alghero is a pretty city located on the west coast of Sardinia. The old part is located on the headland which closes off the beach of San Giovanni and the port.

My suggestion:
It's possible to visit Alghero with a pneumatic train. If you can, I advise you to do it by foot instead. It's one of the most interesting cities in Sardinia.
My review

I left the port and I entered the old town by the Porta a Mare. I arrived at the Piazza Civica where the old Palazzo Municipale stands along with the very beautiful Palazzo Albis, with gothic windows.

A little further on, stands the church of St. Francis (built in the 14th century), which I visited. The interior, with three naves, has numerous gothic arches and a beautiful starry vault in the presbytery. Slightly further on, there's another church, that of St. Michael. It towers up above the narrow alleys of the historic centre. I continued on my path, did the outer tour of the town and admired an old gallows.

Then I took the Via Carlo Alberto, a very busy road as it's packed with shops; they have signs which are sometimes very Spanish and others which are very surprising, filled with coral. Open your eyes!
