A dirt track leads around this charming peninsula where you can see seals, come across sheep, admire lighthouses and especially a quite extraordinary rock: the Hvitserkur.

My suggestion:
A peninsula that shouldn't be ignored for the diversity of its landscapes in a very short distance. Allow at least half a day for the tour.
My review

The most beautiful sites are often situated off the beaten track. Even though leaving route No. 1 for a tour of the Vatnsnes peninsula does not require a big detour, it is nonetheless an opportunity to see some fabulous landscapes.

I believe that, as for everyone who sees it for the first time, Hvitserkur is the most impressive of its sites: a huge rock with double arches rising out of the sea, like two trolls that have been surprised by the sun and petrified.

Yet I have only seen this rock once, lacking time during my second visit to the Vatnsnes peninsula : I had to turn back before I could see it. The road is not very good and progress is slow, so make sure you allow enough time for the trip!
