Lago Viedma is a glacial lake in the heart of Argentine Patagonia, about 80 km from El Calafate. Like its neighbour, Lago Argentino, Lago Viedma is famous for its extraordinary turquoise blue water. You can explore it from <a href="/argentina/">El Calafate</a> if you take a cruise towards the Viedma glacier (the biggest glacier in Patagonia), or from <a href="/argentina/">El Chaltén</a>, which is about 200 km from El Calafate. I loved this Patagonian lake when I explored it during my cruise on it. It is yet another turquoise coloured Argentine Patagonia lake. Los Glaciares National Park is most interesting for its star: Perito Moreno.

I discovered the existence of the beautiful Viedma Lake when I arrived at the hiking mecca of Patagonia, El Chalten. In this village that seems to have been designed exclusively for tourists looking for adventure, you will be given all the info you're looking for and even more on a silver platter, about everything there is to do in the area.
I had barely stepped off the bus when I was offered to go climb a glacier "even more majestic than Perito Moreno and at a much more affordable price." And that's it - a unique experience fell into my lap! As for being "more majestic", I'm not sure, but whatever it may be, the trip was memorable.
A rundown of the day: a boat ride on the lake with gorgeous, surreal landscapes. Then we arrived at the glacier and (for those who chose the climbing option) the mission began on the beginners' walls. It is a little physical I have to admit - especially for the beginners of my species - but the experience is awesome. And once you get to the top of the wall, what a view! Luckily, the weather was beautiful and we were able to test our "skills" on some more difficult walls; then discovering behind the scenes, a cave under the glacier... It was insane. In short, if you're looking for the extraordinary in places with incredible settings during <a href="/argentina/">your trip in Argentina</a>, go there!
