In my opinion San Isidro is a haven of peace only a few kilometres from the capital. This tranquil town to the north of <a href="/argentina/">Buenos Aires</a> is home to Argentina's "old" middle classes, the "chetos" in Spanish. You go to San Isidro to escape the air and noise pollution of Buenos Aies. Here there aren't buildings but instead beautiful residential areas filled with good sized houses. To get to this charming town you have to go down the Panamericana by car or take the train (Mitre line) to Tigre. Once you are there you can stroll along the roads exploring the little boutiques and cafes of this trendy suburb. If you are looking for a cultural visit in San Isidro, then I suggest to go to Villa Ocampo, the house of the famous Argentinian writer, Victoria Ocampo; or you could visit the Pueyrredón Museum at the top of the town. It's there you will find the most beautiful colonial houses of the region. If you like water sports then head for the bajo of San Isidro, on the banks of the Rio de la Plata. I lived in San Isidro for a month and a half during my <a href="/argentina/">trip to Argentina</a> and I really enjoyed the town's green spaces, especially in the summer when the heat can be suffocating. It only takes a day to go round the town so why deprive yourself of the treat?

San Isidro is a peaceful town in Buenos Aires fashionable suburbs.

San Isidro is a pretty small town that is quite bobo and a quick stop over place for cruise ships from all over the world. Its centre is nice, with a local craft market each weekend, and green surroundings that encourage you to do nothing. Moreover, if you're there on a Sunday you are likely to be invited to join in with a family "asado" (barbeque)!
I lived for a little while in Buenos Aires and San Isidro was one of my favourite getaway spots, not only because it was close to the city (an hour's ride on el tren de la costa), but also because it has the cleanest river banks in the region.
But I really do believe that it's a place you absolutely should visit during <a href="/argentina/">your trip to Argentina</a>… Unless you are really anti-town and you don't want to spend much time around the capital.
