Go and visit one of the legendary Andean paths that connect Argentina and Chile: Portillo Piuquenes, also known as Paso Portillo. In this wild area, surrounded by snowy topped mountains, you will find Regugio Scaravelli, a picturesque refuge nestling in the rock. 
If you are fit you can explore the path used by General Martin and his army in 1817, by foot or on horseback. You leave from a small Argentine place called Manzano Histórico, which is about one hour from Mendoza. Allow 4 days and 3 nights on horseback.
