Having been staying in a holiday cottage located between Puerto Varas and Ensenada for the past few weeks, I'm hitch-hiking to Ralún and Cochamó for the day: two places I've heard a lot of good things about. I have to say that it's very beautiful along the way: I've encountered a succession of fjords, rivers where fishermen could be seen fishing for salmon (it's an internationally famous location in this respect) and little villages, each prettier than the next. Cochamó is famous mainly for the forest hikes, which follow the course of the river of the same name. You need a good six hours to reach the campsite located deep in the forest. Obviously I don't have enough time to do that myself, so I settle for a walk along the river in the full knowledge that it won't be long before I have to turn round and come back the way I came. The translucent water is blue-green in colour; the forest lies all around; and here and there are little wooden bridges to be found. In short, it's all quite wonderful. I need to get a move on though; I've still got a fair few kilometres to go and not many cars pass on the road here!
